Balloon festivals are popping up in some of the world’s most astonishing and thrilling places, will any of these destinations take your fancy?
Hot air balloons are renowned for being romantic, from taking a picnic up and looking out over beautiful scenery to being proposed to at sunset by your loved one.
The locations below curate festivals where hundred of balloons and pilots from all over the world descend on mass over some of the most incredible places in the world. A sea of multi-coloured balloons throughout the sky is something that should be experienced at least once in a lifetime.
If you’re looking to enjoy a Balloon festival or just want to take a hot air balloon ride to see the world from a different angle, see if one of the below is for you.

Loire Valley, France

Tanzania, East Africa

Starting out in Europe, the Loire Valley in the west of France proves to be a popular destination for hot air ballooning.
With its numerous amount of Chateaux, rivers and its’ rolling countryside, why not enjoy a glass of red from the local vineyard up in the air.
A personal recommendation would be to take flight over the Chateau de Villandry, with all its intricate and amazingly curated gardens, it would be a gorgeous sight. With year-round flights, you can check out the bases of where to fly from here - France Montgolfieres.
Cappadocia, Turkey

Hot air ballooning in Cappadocia Turkey provides a very different experience as a tourist.
The historic region is more commonly visited for its “fairy chimneys” and various other rock formations, which create an incredible backdrop for the Balloons making it an absolute must see.

New Zealand
The Serengeti National Park in Tanzania seems to be a hugely popular choice in the world of Ballooning and takes Safari rides to a whole new level with a bird’s eye view over the vast nature reserve.
With its’ thousands of animals from lions to wildebeests and well-known sunsets, it’s definitely one to add to the bucket list.
You can experience this throughout the year but during the summer months of December/January are recommended - Balloon Safaris.
Albuquerque, New Mexico

Amongst the thousands of places across the pond that host Hot Air Balloon rides and festivals, it seems that Albuquerque, New Mexico, is a popular destination every October.
The International Balloon Fiesta proves that this part of the world can be transformed from dry, vast desert to seeing the hundreds of multi-coloured balloons descend down into the valley.
However, the USA appears to host Balloon festivals in over 20 locations throughout the year, so if you’re planning to travel over there, have a look and see if there are any that tickle your fancy - USA Balloon Festivals 2017/2018.

I am sure most of us are already aware of the beauty that emits from New Zealand so, why not make travelling there an even more incredible experience by taking a Hot Air Balloon ride over the land that grounded the story for The Hobbit.
Usually, New Zealand is known for the more adventurous activities such as Bungee diving and Skydiving, but why not relax aboard a balloon and enjoy the stunning landscapes below as well as some amazing sunrises and sunsets -Ballooning NZ.
Peak District, UK
Bristol, UK

On the other side of the world, the United Kingdom bodes well for Balloon festivals, with such contrasting scenery throughout the country; there is an array of festivals you can choose from.
Bristol Balloon festival is a whole 4 days of ballooning fun for everyone, which attracts over 130 balloons from all over the world and appears to be the largest Balloon Festival in Europe.

With three locations to fly from in and around the Peak District, this is an excellent location to fly over with the rolling hills of Derbyshire in the forefront, even on a rainy British day you may catch a rainbow.
Although there are no Balloon festivals in this area, it would be a really lovely treat or gift and can also be booked all year round - Peak District Balloon Flights.
Myanmar, Burma
York, UK

The ancient city of York already provides tourists with an array of attractions, history and culture, however, this is the first year York is hosting their own International Balloon Fiesta.
With a weekend of balloon viewing and a special nighttime spectacle ‘Nightglow’, this is an event you wouldn’t want to miss…and it’s free to see - York Balloon Festival.

Myanmar (previously known as Burma) is only recently open to tourism, and drifting on the wind over thousands of pagodas is the top attraction. Because the pagodas cover 15 miles, exploring by air is the obvious choice; sunrise is the ideal time. The town and pagodas are ancient, and this cultural experience is can't miss.
